Poll Insights on Trump Tariffs

According to a recent CBS News/YouGov poll, a staggering 74 percent of Americans believe that President Trump's tariffs and trade policies will primarily benefit wealthy individuals and 71 percent expect large corporations to reap similar rewards. Contrary to this trend, half of those surveyed indicated potential benefits for the U.S. auto industry.

Impact on Different Classes

While 42 percent of respondents suggested that the working and middle class could benefit, 45 percent mentioned labor unions, and 39 percent said small businesses might see positive effects. Despite claims of benefits, financial markets have reacted with volatility following Trump's initial 10 percent tariff on all imports, later adjusting with increased tariffs on Chinese goods by 125 percent.

Public Sentiment on Economic Health

The survey revealed a concerning trend with 49 percent of participants feeling financially worse off due to Trump's policies, illustrating a notable rise in economic dissatisfaction—a seven-point increase since March. Approval ratings for Trump's economic management have also dipped to 44 percent, reflecting a growing discontent among the public.

This poll, conducted from April 8 to 11 among 2,410 U.S. adults, carries a margin of error of ±2.4 points.
