Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar Police Action

The Jalna police have initiated a proposal for cancelling the licences of two pharmacies engaged in supplying psychotropic drugs. This follows a series of arrests tied to the illegal distribution of dangerous substances, including abortion pills and aphrodisiacs.

Background on the Case

The case gained traction after the seizure of sleeping pills from a peddler on September 6, leading to the arrest of multiple individuals. The latest suspect, identified as Krishna Pahade, aged 38, from Madhya Pradesh, was arrested during the police investigation, which aimed at dismantling the network responsible for the illegal sale of psychotropic substances.

  • Arrests included:
  • Altamash Shaikh, 24, from Jalna
  • Pharmacists Santosh Balasaheb Jadhav, 23, and Rahul Bhagaji Gaikwad, 32, from Jalna

Moreover, the drugs seized on September 6 were traced back to Uddhav Shivaji Patare, aged 41, from Jalgaon, whose residence was raided, revealing several boxes of abortion pills and aphrodisiacs. These hazardous drugs were attributed to significant health risks when not administered under medical supervision.

Continuous Investigation and Collaboration

As the investigation unfolded, it was discovered that the drugs were being sourced from Sagar Gunwantrao of Akola and Kapil Sahu of Amravati, both of whom were arrested by the Jalna Local Crime Branch. Sahu's interrogation unveiled further links to Pahade, leading to his arrest on September 15. Inspector Pankaj Jadhav noted that efforts are ongoing to eradicate this drug racket, working in conjunction with the Pharmacy Council and the Food and Drugs Department to ensure the permanent cancellation of licences for the implicated pharmacies.
