India Pharmaceutical Exports: How Drug Formulations & Biologicals Propel Growth in Q1

India pharmaceutical exports demonstrated a remarkable 6.8% growth, reaching $8.10 billion in the first quarter of fiscal 2027, compared to $7.58 billion last year. Data from the Pharmaceuticals Export Promotion Council of India (Pharmexcil) reveals that drug formulations and biologicals were integral, contributing $5.98 billion to the total exports. The chairman of Pharmexcil, Namit Joshi, noted that this growth reflects India’s capability to exploit established markets while expanding into newer territories.
The momentum continued in June, with pharma shipments amounting to $2.81 billion, a 7.1% increase compared to the previous year. Exports of bulk drugs surged by 13.8% to $1.36 billion, while vaccines experienced a significant rise of 35.7% to $390 million. Such performance indicates a deepening of India's pharmaceutical capabilities across the value chain, according to Pharmexcil's vice chairman, Bhavin Mehta.
Notably, North America, Europe, Africa, and Latin America combined represented 75% of India's total pharmaceutical exports for this quarter, with the US as the dominant market, contributing 34.3% or $2.50 billion.
