CHENNAI: Minister for Cooperation K R Periyakaruppan announced that 1,000 'Mudalvar Marunthagam' (Chief Minister's Pharmacy) outlets will be inaugurated on February 24. These will sell affordable medicines at subsidized rates, aiming to improve access across the state.

  • 500 pharmacies set up by cooperative federations/societies.
  • 500 managed by local entrepreneurs.
  • Each outlet receives a grant of Rs 3 lakh for infrastructure and medicines.

Job Opportunities and Management

The initiative has created job openings for young individuals while enhancing community access to essential medications. The Tamil Nadu Consumers’ Co-operative Federation will procure medicines from pharmaceutical companies under the Centralised Procurement of Medicines to ensure quality and availability.

Eligibility for Entrepreneurs

To establish these pharmacies, entrepreneurs must possess a DPharm or BPharm degree along with a pharmacist license. This initiative not only boosts entrepreneurship but also ensures affordable healthcare for all.
