On September 20, the streets of Palermo echoed with remembrance as players from Palermo Calcio arrived at the Renzo Barbera stadium to pay their respects to the late Salvatore Schillaci. The first to arrive were Fabio Lucioni, Roberto Insigne, Valerio Verre, and Matteo Brunori, followed closely by the entire squad, including manager Alessio Dionisi.

Earlier, the club had shared a heartfelt statement, expressing condolences for Schillaci's untimely passing, alongside united support for Francesco Di Mariano, Schillaci's nephew and fellow player. "A true hero of Italy's 1990 Magic Nights, Totò etched unforgettable chapters in football history with his goals, bringing joy to Palermo fans worldwide," read the statement, accompanying a rare picture of Schillaci in his rosanero jersey.

The Heartfelt Tributes

Francesco Di Mariano shared an emotional message online: "Dear uncle, I grew up with dreams inspired by your legacy. I aimed to reach great heights and represent our city proudly, just like you did. Though I have not yet achieved this, I hope you remain proud of me."

In the wake of Schillaci's passing, the club is fully engaged in mourning alongside the city. The upcoming match against Cesena on Saturday, September 21, will honor Schillaci, with players wearing black armbands in tribute to the Palermitan champion. A minute of silence will be observed as mandated by the FIGC for all matches this weekend.
