European Union Welcomes Alibaba's Next-Day Delivery

Alibaba's Cainiao Smart Logistics Network has officially launched its next-day delivery service tailored for European Union countries, featuring a €2 (US$2.20) delivery fee for shipments to Spain and Portugal. This significant push was announced at the 2024 Smart Global Logistics Summit in Hangzhou, situated in China’s Zhejiang province. Alongside the next-day option, a more affordable three-day delivery service is also being offered across various European nations.

Establishing E-Hubs to Drive Efficiency

With the unveiling of a new batch of global e-commerce logistics hubs, referred to as e-hubs, Cainiao is set to enhance supply chain efficiency significantly. These hubs are designed to serve as invaluable shared infrastructure for all e-commerce brands, offering essential support for merchants and platforms. Alibaba’s chairman, Joe Tsai, emphasized the importance of logistics in e-commerce, stating that supply chain logistics are pivotal for competitive advantage.

A Commitment to Global Expansion

As part of its commitment to establishing a global logistics network, Cainiao aims to ensure deliveries are made within a 72-hour timeframe worldwide. The company’s initial overseas e-hub was set up in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, followed by a hub in Hong Kong.

With Europe identified as a critical market, Alibaba’s international platforms, including AliExpress and Alibaba.com, are well-positioned to thrive amidst changing e-commerce landscapes.
